Dysart Road Kirkcaldy

Project Overview
We are upgrading the waste water network in Kirkcaldy to improve the water environment by reducing sewer related debris entering the beach area and Firth of Forth.
The work is part of our £500m Improving Urban Waters programme.
The £3.2m project on Dysart Road at Ravenscraig Park car park is expected to be completed by late autumn 2026.

The storm overflow is located underneath the car park in Ravenscraig Park
What We Are Doing
We are constructing a new storm overflow with a 2m powered screen located within Ravenscraig Park car park.
Along with associated new pipework and manholes, the project will improve water quality and reduce sewer related debris to the beach area and Firth of Forth during periods of heavy rainfall.
Why We Are Doing It
Working closely with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) Scottish Water identified priority storm overflows for improvement or replacement.
Under the banner ‘Draining the Ran, Enhancing the Environment’ the Improving Urban Waters investment will help reduce spills and prevent sewage related debris such as wet wipes from entering the environment during periods of rainfall.
Update - May 2026
Work has now started in Ravenscraig Park car park.
From Tuesday 5 May 2026, Dysart Road will be closed from the junction with The Kyles to just past Ravenscraig Park car park for approximately six months.
A section of the car park will remain open for the duration of the works. Roadworks will be in place on Dysart Road, although access to private driveways will be maintained. Access to Ravenscraig car park will be from the east of Dysart Road (Briarscliff Street/Wishart Place side). There will be no access to car park from the roundabout at St Clair Street/Nether Street (bottom of Dysart Road) or Harriet Street and Ravenscraig Street. Local businesses will remain open as normal.
A diversion route will be in place. Road users are asked to follow all diversion signs and allow extra time for journeys particularly at peak times.
