Project Overview

We are upgrading the sewer network in the Wellhouse area of Glasgow to help prevent sewer flooding and to protect and enhance the local environment.

This project is being delivered by Caledonia Water Alliance on our behalf.

What we are doing

We are installing a new SUDs pond in the land between Newhills Road and Balado Road to help prevent flooding in the area and protect the local environment. 

We will also be installing the associated sewer pipeline that will connect into the new SUDs pond. Our site compound will be located at Balado Road.

We will install the SUDs pond, along with the new sewer pipe, on a rolling programme, with the overall programme of works expected to be completed within 52 weeks. Various traffic management measures will be required during this time.

Why we are doing it

We are working to reduce the risk of flooding in the local Wellhouse area and this new pond will provide essential storage for floodwater during periods of heavy rainfall and storm events.

The type of pond proposed is known as a SUDs Pond – (Sustainable Urban Drainage systems pond). SUDs help retain surface water runoff and help protect water quality and reduce potential for flood risk.

Latest Update - May 2026

Our team are scheduled to start on site on Friday 26 June, beginning with our site establishment on Balado Road.

Once this is completed we will then move on to the installation of the new sewer pipeline which will start on Newhills road before progressing onto Balado Road on a rolling programme.

 

When are we doing it

Works are scheduled to commence on Monday 25th May 2026, beginning with site establishment on Balado Road. From Monday 8th June 2026, installation of the new wastewater pipeline will start on Newhills Road before progressing into Balado Road on a rolling programme. Construction of the SUDS pond will be carried out alongside the pipeline installation. The overall programme of works is expected to be completed within approximately 52 weeks.
  • There will be roadworks during the dates above. This will include phased road closures which will move along the road as works progress, along with footpath closure.Advanced signage will be in place prior to any road closures taking place.Please follow all signs put in place.
  • You may see and hear an increase in construction traffic and noise during the project our site team will endeavor to keep the level of noise and disruption to a minimum.
  • The site compound will be located at Balado Road.
