Project Overview

Scottish Water's £31 million investment in Islay's drinking water infrastructure has reached a major milestone with the arrival of 19 transportable treatment units (TTUs) on the island.

A new Water Treatment Works (WTW) is being built at Torra, alongside the existing facility on High Road, to replace ageing infrastructure and provide increased capacity and resilience for the future.

The works will help secure fresh, clear drinking water for around 1,900 customers across the south of the island, including Bowmore, Port Ellen and surrounding communities.

Construction is well under way, with the investment designed to meet increasing demand while providing additional capacity to support future growth and development.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2027.
