Investment
We are upgrading the wastewater system to help manage heavy rainfall, protect the community from flooding and improve the water environment
What We Are Doing
We are constructing a replacement Storm Overflow to house a powered screen within the grass area behind Main Street and carrying out local sewer realignment work.
Why We Are Doing It
Working closely with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) Scottish Water identified priority storm overflows for improvement or replacement.
Under the banner ‘Draining the Rain, Enhancing the Environment’ the Improving Urban Waters investment will help reduce spills and prevent sewage related debris such as wet wipes from entering the environment during periods of rainfall.
Update June 2026
On Monday 15 June 2026 we began work to construct a replacement Storm Overflow to house a powered screen within the grass area behind Main Street and carry out local sewer realignment work.
The programme of work is expected to last approximately 30 weeks.
Work areas are fenced off to ensure the safety of the public and our operatives. Pedestrian access is being maintained at all times and our operatives are doing everything they can to minimise disruption. We thank the community for their support while this essential work is carried out.
