Saltcoats to Stevenston Rising Sewer Main Burst

Rising Sewer Main

The rising sewer main runs from Saltcoats pumping station (top left) past and under the caravan site and down past Ardeer Primary School (bottom right)

We have been dealing with multiple bursts on a 700mm rising sewer main that runs between Saltcoats and Stevenston.

A burst in the area between Auchenharvie Golf Course and Moorpark Road West has been completed, and that section of underground pipe will be relined as part of a multi-million-pound investment project over the next few months.

The situation with the rising main running south from the railway line past Clark Crescent has proved to be extremely difficult and challenging because of the poor condition of the pipe.

Permanent Solution

Work is underway to install a new underground pipe between the railway line and Clark Crescent

Given its location under a nature reserve and the significant amount of disruption necessary to deal with any future bursts we have decided to install a temporary overland pipe to allow us to complete the replacement of the existing underground sewer.

Once the overland pipe is in place and flows have been transferred it will completely remove the risk of future bursts allowing us to replace the existing 700mm rising main which we anticipate completing before the bathing season begins in June.

This will provide a brand-new asset with a lifespan of around 50 years and will bring peace of mind to the community and protection for the environment.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is being kept informed.

We would like to thank all those affected for their patience and understanding.
