Turriff Water Treatment Works
What we are proposing
Scottish Water proposals for a major investment in drinking water infrastructure serving communities across North East Aberdeenshire have started.
A Proposal of Application Notice has now been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council regarding this development.
We are proposing to construct a new, multi-million-pound Water Treatment Works on land east of Woodside Reservoir, Shandcross, Turriff (AB53 5PL), subject to planning consent.
The existing Turriff Water Treatment Works, located on the outskirts of Turriff, serves more than 74,000 customers across Turriff, Buckie, Banff, Fraserburgh and surrounding communities. The current facility is approaching the end of its operational life, and the proposed replacement will use modern treatment technology and innovative construction methods to help secure future water supplies for the area.

The investment will:
- Improve the quality and resilience of drinking water supplies for customers across the region.
- Provide a more stable and efficient treatment process.
- Enhance the long-term reliability of water services across North East Aberdeenshire.
Subject to receiving planning permission, construction is expected to commence in Spring 2027 and is anticipated to take approximately three years to complete.
As part of the planning process, Scottish Water will be holding two public engagement events where members of the community can view the proposals, speak to members of the project team and ask questions. These events will provide an opportunity to find out more about our plans and members of the project team will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about the project and there will also be an opportunity to provide feedback on the plans.
Letters will be hand delivered to residents who live nearby the site.
