Location of sewer maintenance work

Project Update - 16 July 2026

Good progress continues to be made at Belford Place, with a number of key milestones now successfully completed.

The pipework beneath the riverbed has been secured and the temporary dam has now been removed from the river.

The temporary scaffolding bridge is scheduled to be removed early next week, after which the remaining site equipment and infrastructure will be cleared from the area. Full demobilisation of the site is expected by the middle to end of next week.

We would like to thank local residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding while these essential works have been carried out.

Further updates will be provided if required.

What We Are Doing

We are carrying out short-term sewer maintenance work in the Water of Leith at Belford Place, near Edinburgh's West End. This work will help keep the wastewater network operating reliably now and in the future.

Work will commence on Monday, 15 June and is expected to last approximately four weeks.

There will be no impact on the public walkway. However, there may be some visible construction activity in the water, which is being carefully managed.

A section of the tennis club car park has been allocated for a temporary site compound to support delivery of the works.

Mackenzie Construction will carry out the work on behalf of Scottish Water.
