Project Overview

Scottish Water is carrying out urgent investigation work on the sewer network near Gore Glen Primary School in Gorebridge.

Work is required to address an issue with an underground storage tank, which is causing blockages and sewage to spill out of a nearby manhole.

Work will begin on Monday, 13 July, for approximately two weeks. Further updates on timescales of the repairs will be provided once initial investigation work is complete.

Traffic management measures will be implemented to ensure the safety of teams involved and the public

The work is being delivered by AG Wilson on behalf of Scottish Water.

What We Are Doing

A large underground storage tank in the area is starting to fail. Parts of the internal structure have broken off and are blocking the outlet, which is causing sewage to back up and spill out of a nearby manhole. The tank is also heavily silted, which is making matters worse.

While temporary measures are in place to manage the situation, these are not long-term solutions.

From Monday, 13 July, for approximately two weeks, work to rectify the issue will begin. We first need to excavate, empty and clean the tank so we can fully assess its condition and determine the repairs needed.

To allow work to be carried out as safely as possible, a lane closure and three-way traffic lights will be in place on the A7 roundabout at the junctions of Whitehouse Road and Kirkhill Terrace.

Once this phase of work is complete, we will be able to give you a clearer update on timescales for the repair work. As noted, this investigative work will help shape the overall repair programme.

We will continue to keep this webpage updated with the latest findings from the investigation work, along with our plans for the long-term repair.
