Cathedral Street Glasgow
Sewer Repairs
Cathedral Street is completely closed at its junction with North Frederick Street to allow the sewer repair work to be carried out safely
Cathedral Street in Glasgow city centre is currently closed to allow our operatives to safely carry out urgent sewer repairs.
A CCTV survey has confirmed the sewer running beneath Cathedral Street has collapsed causing voids under the carriageway at its junction with North Frederick Street.
The results clearly show damage to the sewer and the soil beneath the road surface having been washed away.
The road will therefore remain closed while we carry out a repair which we estimate will take approximately four weeks to complete.
Diversion routes are in place, and we would please ask drivers to follow all signs to keep everybody safe.
We would like to thank everyone affected for their patience and understanding.
Local access is being maintained
Both sides of the carriageway have been closed
Latest Update - 10 June 2026
We have now completed the main sewer repair on Cathedral Street and our teams are currently carrying out final patch-lining works on the upstream section of the sewer.
From today, we will begin CCTV inspections and further cleaning to ensure there are no additional defects within the network.
We are working closely with Glasgow City Council, who will carry out planned road resurfacing works under the same road closure. Coordinating these works will help minimise overall disruption.
All remaining activity will be carried out under phased road closures, allowing sections of Cathedral Street to reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
Planned programme (subject to change):
- Phase 1 - 10–14 June 2026: Closure between North Frederick Street and Montrose Street
- Phase 2 - 14–18 June 2026: Closure between Montrose Street and Stirling Road
- Phase 3 - 19–24 June 2026: Closure between Stirling Road and Castle Street
We expect all remaining works, including those being delivered by Glasgow City Council, to be completed within the next two weeks.
Everything is being done complete the repairs and reopen the road as quickly as possible. We would like to thank everyone affected for their continued patience and understanding.
