Stockbridge

Project Overview
We are planning a package of investment to improve and protect the water environment in Stockbridge.
Part of our £500million Improving Urban Waters programme, we are planning to deliver a significant upgrade of the wastewater network. This investment will help alleviate sewer flooding, improve wastewater services for customers and help protect the local environment.
A planning application has been submitted to the City of Edinburgh Council in support of this investment.

Protecting the environment
When excess rainwater is discharged, the new chamber will ensure that this is screened, preventing any sewer-related debris from entering the Water of Leith
What We Are Doing
The investment will consist of construction of a replacement storm overflow chamber and associated pipework to be carried out at the eastern edge of Inverleith Park, by Arboretum Place. When excess rainwater is discharged, the new chamber will ensure that this is screened, preventing any sewer-related debris from entering the Water of Leith.
Why We Are Doing It
Working closely with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) Scottish Water identified priority storm overflows for improvement or replacement.
Under the banner ‘Draining the Rain, Enhancing the Environment’ the Improving Urban Waters investment will help reduce spills and prevent sewage-related debris such as wet wipes from entering the environment during periods of rainfall.
Community Engagement
This project represents a significant investment in the city’s wastewater network and we are committed to maintaining open and transparent communication with the community throughout their delivery. If planning is approved, we aim to begin work as soon as possible and further communication on our plans to carry out the work will be provided to the community prior to any start on site.
