Elmbank Street Sewer Repair
Safety First
Elmbank Street is closed at its junction with St Vincent Street to allow the repair work to be carried out safely
We are carrying out an emergency sewer repair on Elmbank Street in Glasgow City Centre after a large sinkhole appeared in the carriageway close to the junction with St Vincent Street following heavy rain.
The road is closed between Elmbank Crescent and St Vincent Street to allow the repair to be carried out safely.
Unfortunately, it has proved extremely challenging to reach a section of the Victorian egg brick sewer due to the presence of other utilities and the poor condition of the sewer itself. A tunnel has been constructed beneath the carriageway using specialist contractors.
We now anticipate being able to complete the necessary work by around mid-March.
Specialised pumps have been deployed
Waste water is diverted away from the damaged section
Pumps have been set up to divert waste water around the damaged section of sewer.
Local businesses are open and we are working with them to minimise any disruption. Drivers are being advised to follow all signs and allow extra time for their journeys.
We would like to thank anyone affected for their patience and understanding.
