David Dale Avenue Stewarton Flood Alleviation
Project Overview
We have delivered a project to alleviate internal and external sewer flooding in and around David Dale Avenue in Stewarton, East Ayrshire.
The capacity of the local sewer network has been increased to make it less prone to overflowing.

Increased Capacity
Most of the work was carried out in the grounds of Lainshaw Primary School where larger sewer pipes were laid
What We Are Doing
Work on the first phase began in July 2022 and was completed a year later. Designed to alleviate the majority of internal and external flooding, a new upgraded sewer was installed along David Dale Avenue and through an area of mature woodland.
Phase two has seen an upgraded sewer pipe installed in the grounds of Lainshaw Primary School.
We used directional drilling along with the traditional open cut method to minimise disruption to the local community. It involved sinking two small shafts into the ground in the playground area.

Why We Are Doing It
Properties along David Dale Avenue in Stewarton had been prone to internal and external sewer flooding during periods of heavy rain. There has also been a significant increase in the local population and new properties being built.

Update February 2026
We have now completed the second and final phase of the upgrade to the local network and are currently demobilising from site.
Nearly 150 metres of new 1800mm pipe has been installed at depths of up to 8.5 metres from Morton Road, under Lainshaw Primary School’s playing field to just south of the A735.
Specialist landscaping contractors will be on site over the coming months – weather permitting – to install turf and we will be erecting a new fence and carrying out some planting at the school.
