Road Closure

Argyle Street, Glasgow, G2 8QW

Information for Road Users

Posted: Friday 29th May – 08:15hrs

The burst water main near Glasgow Central Station has been successfully repaired.

We have also replaced approximately 85 metres of water main on Argyle Street. Water samples are currently undergoing laboratory testing before the new main can be brought into service, and we expect to receive the results back this week.

We are also planning a further phase of work to replace an additional 70 metres of water main up to the junction with Wellington Street.

This proactive work is being undertaken to strengthen the pipe and reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.

To allow these works to be completed safely, the road closure on Argyle Street under the railway bridge will need to remain in place. It is currently estimated that these works will take approximately 2 weeks.

Lane restrictions on surrounding streets will also continue during this period. Motorists and local residents are advised to plan ahead, allow extra time for journeys, and follow all on-site signage.

We apologise for the ongoing disruption, and thank the public and local businesses for their continued patience while these essential improvements are carried out.
