Performance and Prospects

Watch Scottish Water CEO Alex Plant and Board Chair Deirdre Michie reveal the highlights of how we performed during 2025/26 and our plans for the future

Scottish Water delivered one of its strongest years of performance in 2025/26, with record customer satisfaction, the highest trust score of any UK water and wastewater company, our lowest ever number of serious environmental pollution incidents and continued high drinking water quality.

Our 2025/26 Annual Report and Accounts: Performance and Prospects sets out how we are delivering for customers today while investing to build resilient water and wastewater services for future generations.

As Scotland's publicly owned water company, we are commercially run and independently regulated. We have no shareholders, so every pound we receive is focused on delivering value for customers, and any financial surplus is reinvested to improve services, strengthen infrastructure and support the communities we serve.

This year's report highlights continued investment in essential infrastructure, progress towards our net zero ambitions and the work underway to create wider benefits from every investment we make, including supporting local economies, enhancing biodiversity and developing the skills needed for the future.

It also reflects the growing challenges facing Scotland's water sector. The year began with Scotland's driest start in more than 60 years before periods of intense rainfall and flooding, placing increasing pressure on water resources and ageing infrastructure. Despite these challenges, our people continued to deliver high-quality services while preparing for the future.

Every day we provide around 1.4 billion litres of fresh drinking water, collect and treat wastewater from more than 2.7 million households and businesses, and support the health, wellbeing and prosperity of more than 5.2 million people across Scotland.

The report looks ahead, setting out how we will continue working with customers, communities, government, regulators and partners to balance affordability with the significant investment needed to maintain and improve the essential services Scotland relies on 24/7.
