Scottish Water has reached a significant milestone in its £26.2 investment to enhance and strengthen Perth's water infrastructure for the future.

Working alongside delivery partner Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA), specialist contractors have successfully completed a complex directional drill beneath the A9 north of Perth, allowing a key section of the new water network to be installed without disrupting motorists.

The achievement marks the completion of a critical link in Perth's water network, connecting a new six-million-litre service reservoir to a pumping station via 2.3km of newly installed pipeline.

The investment will support future growth and development across the city, including the expanding Bertha Park community, while enhancing the resilience of the local water network for years to come.

David Lavery, Scottish Water Senior Project Manager, said:

"Reaching this milestone brings us a step closer to delivering infrastructure that will help ensure a reliable supply of fresh, high-quality drinking water for customers across Perth for many years to come.

"We're pleased that this major phase of the project has been completed with minimal disruption to local communities and road users, and we look forward to bringing the new infrastructure into service later this year."

Ross Grant, Project Manager for Caledonia Water Alliance, said:

"Successfully completing both directional drill drives, covering a combined distance of 312 metres, was a significant engineering achievement for the project team."

"This complex work has enabled us to install the new pipeline beneath the A9 without impacting motorists, and the project remains on track for completion by the end of summer 2026."
