The local community is being invited to share views on proposals to plant more native broadleaf trees around Mugdock and Craigmaddie reservoirs.

Scottish Water is inviting local residents to share their views on early proposals for nature-based improvements around Milngavie Reservoirs.

Two public consultation events will take place this summer, with an indoor drop-in session at Cairn Church Hall on 30 July between 2.30pm and 6pm, followed by an outdoor event at the reservoirs on 4 August between 10.30am and1.30pm.

Working with delivery partners Bell Ingram, Scottish Water is developing native woodland creation plans in carefully selected areas around Mugdock and Craigmaddie reservoirs.

Early proposals include native broadleaf woodland, wild orchard planting and shrubs to boost biodiversity, enhance the landscape and create richer habitats for wildlife. The plans are being developed with existing access, amenity use and the site’s historic character in mind, while also supporting natural drainage, climate resilience and Scottish Water’s net zero ambitions.

Stephen Garbett, Scottish Water’s Woodland Creation Project Manager, said: “These proposals are about finding the right balance between enhancing the natural environment, respecting the heritage of this much-loved site and supporting how it is used by the community.

“By working with Bell Ingram, we’re exploring how carefully targeted woodland creation could support biodiversity, improve the landscape, help manage natural drainage and create spaces that people and wildlife can enjoy together.

“We would encourage anyone with an interest in the site to come along to one of our events, find out more and help shape the plans.”

The consultation events form part of early engagement on the plans, with feedback helping to inform the next stage of design.
