Palnackie Harbour wall repair now complete

Scottish Water has completed its major project to repair and strengthen the harbour wall at Palnackie, helping protect the local environment and vital infrastructure serving the community.

The work involved repairing 106 metres of the south harbour wall at Palnackie Harbour, securing a key wastewater asset that supports hundreds of local residents.

The ageing timber wall had become unstable, posing a risk of collapse which could have led to significant environmental impacts within the harbour. Early intervention works were carried out in 2024 to stabilise the area ahead of a permanent solution being delivered this year.

“This project required strong collaboration between Scottish Water and George Leslie.”

Senior Project Manager, Scottish Water

Scottish Water and its delivery partner George Leslie, working closely with Solway Plant Hire, delivered the project in two phases: initial stabilisation works to protect the harbour and surrounding infrastructure, followed by the construction of a permanent solution which has now been completed three months ahead of schedule.

The final solution included installing a new reinforced wall structure, anchored into place and designed to provide long-term stability and resilience.

Ross McEwan, Senior Project Manager at Scottish Water, said: “This project required strong collaboration between Scottish Water and George Leslie, and it is very rewarding to see it completed on site.

“The uniqueness of the project not only safeguards our assets but also helps protect the local environment and ensures the harbour remains a safe and valued space for the community.”
